Matthew 6:15-15
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Many times it is difficult to forgive those who have wronged us. However, forgiveness is for our own happiness and when we hold on to anger, bitterness and hate, we harm ourselves more than the actual offender.
To begin the process of forgiveness and healing, we need to acknowledge the emotions associated with the person(hurt, anger or disappointment) and express how we feel to the offender. By effectively communicating with the offender, hopefully you can both come to a resolution (which does not always involve reestablishing the relationship or friendship). It is important that you release these toxic emotions as they can affect your life in a negative way.
Do not let let unforgiveness cause you to be bitter, angry or make you lose your blessings. Forgive them. Our father has been merciful to us, so we need to forgive and show mercy to others. It is important that we not only forgive our brothers and sisters, but pray for them as well. Our lord and savior said it best in Luke 23:34 (NKJV)”Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
